Identify the PDS 2010 before comparing offers

Specialty Coating Systems' Labcoter 2 brochure identifies the PDS 2010 as a parylene deposition system for laboratory research, application development and testing. Request a nameplate photo and the manual supplied with the offered unit before using that brochure to assess it.

Specify whether your request is for a complete coating system or selected assemblies. Ask the seller to identify every included component and any changes from the documented original configuration.

What to match in a used-system quote

Build the inspection request around the exact unit:

• Manufacturer, model, serial number, control-system identification and available manuals.
• Chamber dimensions and fixturing details sufficient to assess your intended parts and batch layout.
• Pump, trap or cooling equipment, gauges, seals, hoses and other accessories included in the sale.
• Electrical supply and facilities requirements from the applicable installation documentation.
• Previous coating materials, cleaning history, maintenance records and any modifications.

Ask the supplier to label photographs and inventory records with the quoted serial number. Do not assume that a photograph of accessories means they are included in the price.

Coating acceptance: test your parts or witness samples

Before purchase, have your process engineer agree on the coating material, preparation method, fixturing and target film requirements. Define the measurement locations and acceptance limits for thickness, uniformity, coverage and any application-specific tests.

Ask qualified personnel to demonstrate the agreed cycle and record the operating conditions, alarms and results. Include a documented review of the vacuum system, controls and safety functions under the applicable manual. Require the supplier to disclose unresolved faults and identify what was serviced before the test.

Do not accept an unmeasured coated sample as proof that your requirements have been met. Request the test report, measurement method and any exceptions. Set the remedy for failed acceptance in writing before shipment.

Used or refurbished: specify the work

Ask for a list of replaced parts, cleaning performed, tests completed and remaining defects. Require the seller to state which work is included before delivery and which work remains your responsibility.

Review refurbished versus as-is equipment when comparing the scope of two offers. Negotiate the scope itself, not just the condition label.

Request a quote without assuming stock

Send your part dimensions, proposed batch layout, coating requirements, destination and required documentation. Ask for an itemized quote covering the system, accessories, test scope, packing, transport and installation assistance.
